How to Hang a Barn Door on a PVC Frame
I sell barn door parts. And this question comes up a lot: how do you mount a barn door on a PVC door frame?
PVC is not like wood. It's usually hollow and thin. Screws won't hold much. If you just drill into PVC, the door will sag or rip out within days. I've seen it happen.
So before you buy a Barn Door And Kit, figure out what's behind the PVC. If there are wood studs, good. If not, you need to add a wood backer board. Cut a board that spans at least two studs, screw it into the studs, then mount your track to that board. That's the real trick. Skip it and nothing else matters.
Once you have solid backing, measure your opening. Your Barn Door Track And Rollers should be longer than the door is wide – usually by a few inches on each side. Use a level. Don't trust your eye. A track that's off by a quarter inch will make the door slide on its own.
